Our History
República del Cacao was born in 2005 when our Ecuadorian founders, the Chiriboga brothers, entered a chocolate shop in Paris and asked to taste the finest chocolate available. The shop assistant brought them the most prized chocolate he had. The brothers, amazed and excited, did not hide their surprise upon discovering that the cacao for this very special chocolate came from the well-known region of Guayaquil in their home country of Ecuador. Despite being aware of Ecuador's history with cacao, they had never realized that our cacao was among the best in the world and that it was also used to produce the finest chocolates.
At that moment, República del Cacao was born with the purpose of producing the most authentic Latin American chocolate, hand in hand with local communities, sustainably developing fine aroma cacao at its source. Since then, we have taken strong steps forward, with the launch of our consumer chocolates in 2007 and our professional line in 2014. Today, our chocolates are distributed around the world, and we take pride in being chosen by the best chefs globally.
The unique climate and extraordinary variety and biodiversity of Ecuador provide the right conditions for cultivating fine aroma cacao, and we take pride in producing chocolate entirely in Latin America, using only local ingredients.
