Cocoa Talks: Cocoa Republic and WFP

Oct 8, 2024

In October 2023, República del Cacao will become the first Ecuadorian SME to sign a working agreement with the United Nations World Food Program (WFP). This organization, which won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2020, supports countries in conflict situations with food assistance, helps small farmers improve productivity, and boosts human capital through school feeding programs.

As part of the "Project to promote cocoa and banana consumption in favor of nutrition", República del Cacao and the WFP joined forces to promote sustainability, fine aroma cocoa and community development. To close the first year of work, a Cacao Talk was organized, a space for knowledge exchange where the private sector, international cooperation, guilds and local producers met in an atmosphere of learning, inspiration and commitment to a better future.

Here, the collaboration between República del Cacao and the WFP was highlighted, which has sought to strengthen the value chain in the cocoa sector, as well as to promote the consumption of cocoa and bananas in healthy and delicious preparations, combining them with other local ingredients. This reflects the commitment of both institutions to nutrition and health in the communities, offering consumption options that promote the well-being of the population.

During the Cacao Talk it became clear that fine cocoa is not only a premium product that the world enjoys, but also an opportunity to build more sustainable and resilient communities.

República del Cacao and the World Food Program reaffirmed their commitment to continue working together for sustainable and fair cocoa.

Together we change the world, one cocoa bean at a time!
