Our History
Republic of Cacao was born in 2005 when our Ecuadorian founders, the Chiriboga brothers, entered a chocolate shop in Paris and asked to try the finest chocolate there. The store assistant brought them the most prized chocolate he had. The brothers, amazed and excited, did not hide their surprise upon discovering that the cocoa for this very special chocolate came from the well-known Guayaquil region in their home country of Ecuador. Despite knowing Ecuador's cocoa history, they were unaware that their cocoa was among the best in the world and was also used to produce the finest chocolates.
At that moment, República del Cacao was born with the purpose of producing the most authentic Latin American chocolate hand-in-hand with local communities, sustainably developing fine aroma cocoa at its source. Since then, we have taken strong steps, launching our consumer chocolates in 2007 and our professional line in 2014. Today, our chocolates are distributed around the world, and we are proud to be chosen by the world's best chefs.
Ecuador's unique climate and extraordinary variety and biodiversity provide the ideal conditions for growing fine aroma cocoa, and we are proud to produce chocolate with integrity in Latin America, using only local ingredients.
