República del Cacao Presented Cacao Talks alongside Global Compact Ecuador and UN Women

December 4, 2019

República del Cacao presented the concept of a talk series: “Cacao Talks,” alongside Pacto Global Ecuador and UN Women. This edition's focus of discussion was around the Women's Empowerment Principles (WEPs), promoted by UN Women.

The Women's Empowerment Principles are a set of business best practices that promote equality between women and men in all areas of management. This initiative proposes the creation of development opportunities for women within public and private companies, their participation in leadership and decision-making, equal pay for equal work, and the generation of continuous training, capacity building, and professional development opportunities.

Lorena Barba, Gender Specialist in Planning and Budgeting at UN Women Ecuador, was the special guest of the event, presenting the 7 proposed principles to promote the implementation of best practices with a gender perspective in private company management. “Let's think about equality, build with intelligence, and innovate for change.”, was one of the closing reflections mentioned in the presentation with the goal of highlighting the opportunity to adopt policies and invest in promoting gender equality in organizations.

Ana Cristina Lapentty, Legal and Government Affairs Manager at Avon, was invited to present the good practices the company has had over the years with leadership in implementing the Women's Empowerment Principles and the significant return this has meant. “Beauty is free when you feel empowered.” Ana Cristina shared in one of her interventions.

Likewise, the event included various organizations from the banking sector, the cosmetics industry, fashion, social entrepreneurship, consultants, lawyers, and chefs; who took advantage of the space to connect from the purpose of each of their organizations, sharing a vision towards the implementation of gender equality principles.

Special guests included the allied cattle ranchers and dairy farmers from Turucucho, with whom the company works to strengthen a vision of female leadership for the implementation of shared value projects.

The event was driven by República del Cacao through its project of “Cacao Talks”. This project aims to promote dialogues in dynamic spaces that seek to share perspectives from diverse sectors on sustainable development issues.
