Latin America´s Special Flavor: 50 Best Restaurants 2018

For the second consecutive year, Maido has been voted No.1 in the list of Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants 2018. The sixth annual Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants awards ceremony, which celebrates the best-in-class of Latin American gastronomy, was held on Tuesday 30 October at the Ágora events center in Bogotá, Colombia, with the attendance of chefs, restaurateurs, sommeliers, international influencers, journalists and gourmands.

Led by chef-owner Mitsuharu ‘Micha’ Tsumura, Maido is a space where visitors can experience Nikkei cuisine, a fusion of Peruvian and Japanese flavours that delights diners from across the world. As well as being named The Best Restaurant in Latin America, sponsored by S.Pellegrino & Acqua Panna, Maido is also named The Best Restaurant in Peru.

Three times former winner Central is ranked at No.2 on the annual list. Pujol, in Mexico City, is at No.3, followed by Boragó in Santiago at No.4 and D.O.M in São Paulo at No.5; these last three received the titles of The Best Restaurant in Mexico, Chile and Brazil respectively.

The top 10 is completed by Don Julio, in Buenos Aires, at No.6; A Casa Do Porco in São Paulo, at No.7; Astrid y Gastón in Lima at No.8; Quintonil in Mexico City at No.9 and Leo in Bogotá at No.10.

For Latin America’s Best Pastry Chef Award, sponsored by República del Cacao, was presented to Jesús Escalera from La Postrería in Guadalajara, Mexico, mentioning that:

“This award is the greatest honour for me. I admire the 50 Best organisation and all the pastry chefs who have received this accolade, both in The World´s and Latin America´s 50 Best Restaurants. I am very grateful to República del Cacao. It is a happy coincidence, because I use their chocolate in my cooking.”
